Do I Need a Different Website Design for the UK to the USA?
The Internet makes it easier than ever before to turn a small company into one that could be considered a multinational corporation; but many business owners are unaware of the differences between companies. While it seems easy to make your products available all over the world, there are some variables that you will have to look into if you wish to accomplish this.
The reason for this is primarily due to the fact that different countries have different terminologies and this can become confusing for customers who visit. For example, if you are marketing your company to both British and American interests, it might be wise to take a few things into consideration when designing your website.
The first thing that you will want to consider is the type of language that is used, as American and British English have their differences. While many of these differences might not even be noticed, it could hurt your sales if even a few potential customers notice that you have used a different form of language. These simple spelling differences can easily be fixed by setting up a different URL for each country.
You can then use a word processor to edit the spelling of each website, so that you will not have to write new articles. A little bit of geographical marketing can go a long way because the reader will feel as though it is a local company; and despite the global spread of the Internet, many consumers are still looking to source their products and services locally. People are more likely to spend money within their own country, so it is important to make these small changes if you want to keep everyone happy.
Another aspect that you might want to consider is the type of content that readers from each country enjoy reading. The more engaging your content is, the better chance you will have of making a sale. Therefore, it might be a good idea to spend a little bit of extra money and have specific articles written for the people in each country. This is easy to do and will not call for you to spend much money, but it could end up being the difference between making a sale and not making a sale. If it leads to even one sale in each country, you will have made your money back, making it worth the upfront investment.
Basically, you do not need a completely different website design for both the UK and the USA, but you do need to make some small changes so that people in each country know that their business is important to you. These issues might not be as important for smaller countries, but the UK and the USA are two countries with very proud heritages and they are used to people wanting their business. By simply writing some articles that apply to people in each country, you can show that you are aware of each country's individuality, which will definitely help you in the long run. You can use the same basic website design, but can make it look like a completely different website with a few different pictures and articles on each one.
